Description: With the formation of human communities and the formation of cities, the process of crime is increasing, and as these communities expand, the scope of crime also increases, and the need to fight against it and plan to prevent crime becomes undeniable and necessary. Thinkers of sociology and criminology have studied crime and its prevention strategies from each perspective, but what should never be overlooked is the effective role of managing human communities, which we refer to as urban management. Municipality, as one of the main pillars of urban management, with lack of proper planning leads to the creation of inappropriate and dangerous environments in urban areas. The design and placement of buildings, paying attention to urban furniture and public parks, not paying attention to street lighting, and not paying attention to mixed use are among the measures that are the responsibility of city management and their correct implementation can play an effective role in reducing crime. In this article, by examining urban environments and theories related to urban security, we will discuss the role of effectiveness of their function in crime prevention and as a result reduce crimes and criticize their performance. Therefore, Seyed Abad neighborhood of Mahabad was selected as the research area and urban management policies in this neighborhood were analyzed and evaluated.
